PLCs – Review from the DuFours PLCs must be a part of what we do – its that important! If supervision is mandatory, then teacher time to learn & share with colleagues must be mandatory. Research shows PLCs, make a big impact on student learning, however: ~Collaboration by Invitation Doesn’t Work~ The principal is the only person who can say: “I direct you to change your behavior.” The culture at the school will reflect the worst behavior the leader will tolerate.

PLCs – Review from the DuFours CONTENT The most effective PLCs are made up of teachers who teach the same CONTENT PLCs must learn together by studying research & resources BEFORE they can make informed decisions together about unit & lesson planning, assessments, or anything.

PLCs – Review from the DuFours The THREE main functions of the PLC – they MUST agree on these items: 1 st – What content will we teach and in what order? (research standards & targets) 2 nd – How will we assess all students in our grade or course on the same content? (research & decide what questions will be on the common assessment) 3 rd – How long do we agree to spend teaching each unit, and which week will we all administer & score the common assessment? (review scores from my classes compared to all classes – what can I learn from my colleagues); (review student scores – which students need additional instruction based on our results).

What Assessment? When to Assess & Score? What conclusions? What content? PLC Cycle: What content? What Assessment? When to Assess & Score? What conclusions? PLCs – Review from the DuFours
