Elevator Mishap By: Kimberlee
Mrs. Griffin and I were in the public library. We were meeting for five weeks because I was helping her with her college courses and it gave me something to do. One of the things we did was learning some new words. I would pick four words that I missed the other day. Then I would look in the McGraw-Hill Children’s Dictionary and write the definition on a card. I would draw a picture to go with the definition. Mrs. Griffin and I were in the public library. We also read the book Tiger Rising by Kate DiCamillo. It was a book about a boy and a girl who found a tiger. We would visualize a picture in our minds as we were reading. I felt good because it helped me understand the book. We needed to go down the stair’s to go get a book. There was caution tape across the staircase. There was a note that said the stairs were closed. “What do we do now?” said Mrs. Griffin. We also read the book Tiger Rising by Kate DiCamillo. “Let’s call them and tell them that we need the key to the elevator.” I said. We looked over the edge and they threw the key up to us. We then got on the elevator. I push the button to go down and the door closed. The elevator started to go down and then all of a sudden it got dark and it stopped. We were stuck in the elevator. “Let’s call them and tell them that we need the key to the elevator.” I said. We looked over the edge and they threw the key up to us. We then got on the elevator. The electricity went out. Totally out. I sat there for a minute. Then I banged on the sides of the elevator and screamed, “Help! Help!” After I was screaming help, my voice went out. It was so long that we fell asleep. I was dreaming about Edward Tulane facing down in the mud. It was dark. The electricity went out. Totally out. I sat there for a minute. The electricity came back on. My mom came up and did not see us. So she went back down the stairs because the stairs were fixed and asked the people if they knew where we were. They said they last saw us in the elevator. They gave my mom the key and she put it in. When the doors opened, we were sleeping. The electricity came back on. My mom came up and did not see us. My mom said, “Kim! Kim! Wake up.” I woke up and she said, “What are you doing?” I said, “The electricity went out and it was so long that we fell asleep.” I woke up Mrs. Griffin and we got up and ran out of the elevator. I felt really happy to be set free. We are never going in that elevator again. My mom said, “Kim! Kim!
