2.1 Unit 2 Defining Style Previewing the Unit Academic and Literary Vocabulary QHT Chart: Look at the academic vocabulary and literary terms on page 86 (contents page) Use a QHT chart to analyze and evaluate your current knowledge of those words. Q= you have questions about the term; H = you’ve heard of it before but still need help to apply it or use it properly; T = you know it so well you could teach it.

2.1 Unit 2: Defining Style Previewing the Unit Unpacking Embedded Assessment 1 Review the scoring guide on page 127. Highlight nouns and verbs that show what knowledge and skills are needed to accomplish EA 1 Create a chart like this in your spiral and pull out the key components by writing them in your own words under the corresponding component. What do you have to do for each of these to do well on your short story, based upon the scoring guide? Ideas Language EA 1: Short Story Structure Conventions Mark or highlight in red/pink things that you don’t know how to do or need help with; mark or highlight in green, things that you know how to do. Share in groups and create a poster for your table group (see left white board for an example) – staple poster to the green bulletin board when done. Gallery Walk – review the other group’s posters. Write down one take-away from another group’s poster that you either did not have or that would help you for this EA. Circle or star this in your spiral!
