How do we help your child? ▪ All teachers are CLAD certified which means they are trained to work with students that speak languages other than English ▪ Mrs. Tse works with students to support what they are doing in class. ▪ Teachers monitor the progress of the students throughout the year using observation forms.
Imagine Learning ▪ District purchased computer based program for learning English ▪ Available to Beginning and Early Intermediate students ▪ Before School Intervention Program
CELDT Testing ▪ October 20, 2015 ▪ Used to determine growth in the English language ▪ Reading, writing, speaking, and listening ▪ Results mailed in January or February
How does your child test out of the program? Early Advanced or Advanced on the CELDT test Benchmark scores for Reading and Writing Teacher feedback/recommendation

CAASPP ▪ California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress ▪ Test on computers/devices ▪ Students test in Language Arts if they have been in the country more than one year ▪ All students test in Math ▪ Testing is in April / May
What can you do at home? ▪ Have your children READ ▪ Take them to the public library or the bookstore to buy books in English ▪ Our school library has books in two languages ▪ Websites such as starfall.com and abcya.com and ipad apps for vocabulary ▪ Use the Online Resources handout for suggestions
Parent Conferences ▪ If you need a translator for parent / teacher conferences, please let the teacher or Mrs. Tse know!
English Learner Advisory Committee District Learner Advisory Committee ▪ We need one or two parents to be a part of our school’s English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC) and District Learner Advisory Committee (DELAC). ▪ This means representing our school at meetings at the district office. You would give your input into what is happening with our English Learner students. ▪ These meetings would be every other month. ▪ Who would be willing to serve as our ELAC and DELAC representative?
DLAC Meetings ▪ November 18, :00-10:30 a.m. ▪ January 27, :00-10:30 a.m. ▪ March 9, :00-10:30 a.m. ▪ May 4, :00- 10:30 a.m.
