Part-Time Faculty Lunch and Learn Convocation- March 6, 2012

Bargaining 2012 Union Priorities – Preserve as much as possible for as long as possible – Protect, expand and enhance contractual language that is not related to wages, hours and terms/conditions of employment Language dealing with relationship between union and college, etc. – Qualify contractual changes as conditional on current law – Most traditional subjects of bargaining are out of our control and subject to unilateral change by the administration

PACE Results 280 PT Faculty responded to survey. There was a very late surge of 100+ respondents. – PT “population” = 1333 for survey purposes. 21% response rate. – 100+ more PT responses than 2008 PACE survey. General trends – Admin are the happiest, followed by FT faculty – PT faculty and PSRP are least happy – Statistically significantly below national norms on most measures regarding: Institutional Structure, Supervisory Relationships, Teamwork. Strength is in Student Focus.

Open Union/Management Issues Part-timer representation on AQIP committees Provision of draft schedule for Summer 2012 and Fall Overload scheduling investigation – Complaints regarding courses being “held back” from Non- Probationary PT faculty because they had been desired as overload for FT faculty – Investigation Fall 2011: 120 courses assigned as voluntary FT overload Spring 2012: 117 courses assigned as voluntary FT overload Identifying potentially impacted PT faculty – Options: Negotiate with FT Union/ Admin, Grieve Issue/ Contract Action, Unit Clarification Action
