I. What is a prophet? Notebook Activity 4 Read Deuteronomy 18:14-22 and write a description of what a prophet is

II. A Prophet’s Role To speak for God to the king and the people Usually applied to he immediate future Many also had long-term fulfillment Prophets in Israel: warned and called the kings and God’s people back to God’s laws –Predicting the future was only a minor part

III. 2 Types of Prophets During early part of the Divided Kingdom, many lived in communities or school (Elijah and Elisha) –Did not write down their messages –Performed miracles to demonstrate God’s power Later prophets did not live in communities –Left poetic, written records of God’s words –Miracles not an important part of their role
