What is Allusion??  When authors refer to other great works, people, and events, it’s usually not accidental.  These references are called allusions.

The Scarlett Letter  Melinda says she is wearing an “S” for shame, stupid, silent, which parallels the “A’ Hester Pyrnne was forced to wear  Connection?  Both characters are hiding something.  Both characters are being ostracized (shunned from society)

Pablo Picasso  Scared to tell the truth (he was married but had many mistresses)  Tries to express his feelings through art, but is scared the truth will come out.
