LEARNING SUPPORT Important Dates and Information

2 Important Policies 1.Learning Support (LS) requirements may not be deferred to a future semester; in order to take any college-level credits (1000-level or higher), students must be in the process of satisfying LS requirements. This is a state Board of Regents policy. 2.If a student withdraws from a LS class, s/he must also withdraw from any college-level courses for which co- enrollment in Learning Support is a requirement. For example, students with a LS Reading requirement may only take POLS 1101 if they are concurrently enrolled in ACAE Withdrawal from ACAE 0099 would also require withdrawal from POLS (See next slide for more information)

Students with LS Reading requirementStudents with LS English requirementStudents with LS MATH requirement May only (concurrently) take the followingMay not take the following ART CSCI ENGL1101/2 ECON1100 ECON1502 GISC2011 HIST1112 MATH MUSC1100 PHED1000-level PHIL POLS1101 For.Lang UNIV1000, 2001 UNIV 1101 required if Reading COMPASS score <78 ART 2510 ART 2520 COMM CSCI 1371 CSCI 1502 HIST 2114 JOUR MDST 2700 MLAN PSYC RSCH 1501 any ENGL CSCI 1502 any MATH 1001 & beyond Area A math is req’d for: ACCT BUSA 2201 CHEM ECON PHYS UNIV 1101 required if Math COMPASS score<27 Courses that may be taken concurrently with LS Reading; courses that may not be taken until LS English or Math completed.

Allowed Number of Attempts for Completion of LS Requirements ACAE 0099: maximum of 2 MATH 0097: maximum of 2 MATH 0099: maximum of 3, for those who begin in MATH 0099 MLCS 0099: maximum of 3 Notes: Students who have a LS math requirement are allowed a maximum of 3 semesters in which to completely satisfy the LS math requirement. Students must be in the 0099-level course by the third attempt. Remember, MLCS 0099 is not the appropriate LS math for students whose majors require MATH 1111 or higher.

What does it mean to withdraw from a course? When students withdraw from a Learning Support (LS) course by the midpoint of the semester, that semester’s attempt in LS doesn’t count toward the total allowed attempts. “Attempt” is defined as any semester in which a student receives any grade other than W. (i.e., A, B, C, IP, F, or WF) While there are no academic penalties for withdrawing from a class prior to the midpoint, there may be financial aid consequences. Remember, too, that faculty may have students administratively withdrawn at any point in the semester for excessive absences. This results in a WF if initiated after the midpoint, which may result in WFs in college-level courses. A WF in LS counts as an attempt.

Important Dates this Semester Midpoint (last day to withdraw from a full-session course without academic penalty): Thursday, June 26, 2014 Fall registration dates: July 21-25; August 18. Please consult with a faculty or professional staff advisor for a Signed Scheduling Worksheet. Be sure to Check for Registration Time and Holds in your Banner Web account to determine whether or not you have any holds.
