Youth definition Youth definition according to Tanzania Youth development policy of 2007, Youth in are young men and women from the age group of 15 to 35 thus specific programs related to specific age cohort shall be developed by stakeholders to suite specific needs of youths.

Tanzania Youth in Agribusiness Forum (TYIAF) Background Tanzania Youth in Agribusiness Forum (TYIAF) is a youth-led platform under Agri hub Tanzania. TYIAF was launched on 11 th may 2013, with a motto of “Kilimo Biashara Ndio Mpango Mzima” thus – “Agribusiness is the whole plan”. About TYIAF

Challenges facing youth in Agriculture Lack of enough practical oriented agribusiness skills and knowledge Inadequate information on opportunities Too much focus on small holder production Little or no attraction for youths to engage in agriculture In adequate distribution of resources eg. Land, capital, market links

TYIAF Plans for 2014 Target Document farming as business (Mapping) case for sharing with the youth forum Link youth for skills and enterprises development in knowledge centres Organise dialogue between youth and financial institutions to promote understanding, discuss collateral Knowledge sharing on youth initiatives and knowledge products for youth among organization Outputs Case study for farming as a business developed Links to OYE project and other institutions established issue (1 dialogue organised between youth and financial institutions) (Initiatives compiled, documented and shared) Organise a youth forum in agri-business to interest youth in Agri-business, 3 forums for youth in agribusiness organised and 1 “Youth and Women Agriculture Awards” Leading stakeholder: SNV Members: TRIAS, TGFA, 4H, SUGECO, FAIDA MALI, MVIWATA, FERT, AMSHA, CHIPUA, BriTen, Oiko credit, SIDO, HIVOs, IBUTTI, MEBTI, MDF,

Conclusion and Recommendation There is a need to coordinate all the initiatives to support youth engagement in Agriculture through multidisciplinary approaches for mutual benefit. We are committed and have started it through TYIAF, please join us a hand together we can.
