Budget Position Control

3Budget Position Control Primary Objects of the Organizational Structure Organizational Units Describe the various departments that exist within BCPS, and include Superintendent’s Office, Area Offices, New River Middle School, etc. JobsGeneral classifications of tasks and attributes that are routinely performed together and i nclude Teacher, Principal, Office Manager, etc. Positions Individual employee assignments in the district and include Paraprofessional, Teacher-Science, Associate Superintendent HR, Office Manager, etc. PersonsSpecific individuals who hold positions within the district, i.e., Mary Jones, etc. Chiefs Manage the organizational unit and sit on top of the reporting hierarchy for that particular organizational unit Organizational Management houses the building blocks that provide the foundation for the entire structure of SAP Human Capital Management (HCM):

4Budget Position Control Jobs are general classifications of tasks that are routinely performed together. Jobs hold attributes, such as education and salary scale, and are attached to positions. Examples include Teacher, Principal, Office Manager, etc. Jobs Job: Teacher Position: Teacher – Grade 2 Position: Teacher Position: Teacher – Grade 8

5Budget Position Control Positions are the individual employee assignments in the district. Positions are occupied by persons. Positions are specific classifications of work duties. Many work-related attributes, such as workflow, approvals and security are attached to the position, as opposed to the person. As a rule, only one employee occupies a primary position. Job: Teacher Position: Teacher - Adult Position: Teacher – Voc. Middle Position: Teacher – Grade 8 Positions

6Budget Position Control Chiefs manage the organizational unit and sit on top of the reporting hierarchy for that particular organizational unit. Persons within the organizational unit may or may not directly report to the Chief. The Chief performs all compensation reviews for persons in the organizational unit. Chiefs report to other chiefs as organizational units report to other organizational units. The designation of a position as a Chief is reflected in the position attributes. Organizational Unit Chiefs

7Budget Position Control To recap, understanding the role that each object plays and the relationships between the objects is critical to being able to work within the SAP environment. Persons are assigned to positions Person Organizational Units describe the various departments/schools that exist within SBBC Positions are specific classifications of work duties Jobs are general classifications of tasks routinely performed together Job Position Org. Unit Chiefs manage the organizational unit Chief Relationships in Organizational Management
