POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE NUMBERS
Adding Integers. Adding Integers with the Same Sign Add the absolute values. The sum will have the same sign as the addends. Example 1 Find –2 + (-3)
Today we will subtract positive integers from negative integers. Subtract means to take away Positive integers are numbers greater than zero. Negative.
ADDING INTEGERS Positive + Positive = Positive Positive + Positive = Positive ( +3) + (+2) = +5 ( +3) + (+2) = +5 When a number is positive, you do not.

Watch BrainPop video Intro to Adding integers

When the signs are the same, find the sum. In other words, ADD!! And keep the sign of the larger. When the signs are different, find the difference. In other words, Subtract! And keep the sign of the larger number. Adding Integers Notes

Adding integers Same sign – Sum + Different signs – Difference -    

Mrs. Williams’ turn:   44+ (-56)

How does this work?  On a number line…. Move to the right with a +, but a - will turn it around.  Cancelling one another out… For every +, a – will cancel it out.

Let’s do together:  Page 12 Problems Now you finish the rest with a partner.

Now it’s your turn…  Complete the rest on your own.  You will go over these with Mr. Graves.  NO CALCULATORS!!  Good Luck!!
