Award of CIS Re-Accreditation

“The Board of Trustees of the Council of International Schools has now completed its study of the report on your school submitted by the April 2011 CIS/NEASC/IB Visiting Team. I am pleased to inform you that the decision of the Trustees was to award CIS re- accreditation to the International School of Belgrade (ISB).” Dr. Gerry Percy Director of Accreditation Services Council of International Schools (CIS)

A - Philosophy and Objectives The School for drawing up clear Mission and Vision statements in a collaborative manner which link well to IB philosophy and learner profile. The School for drawing up a comprehensive process for the continuing review of the Mission and Vision statements which includes a protocol of descriptors and indicators to aid clarity in evaluating the effectiveness of their implementation. The Board of Trustees and senior management for drawing up a strategic plan linked to the schools statements of Mission and Vision. X – Curriculum Please see IB-style report on this area. C – Governance and Management The Board of Trustees’ strong organizational plan, documented policy manual, dedication to its own training and evaluation and to that of the Director. The development of an insightful Strategic Plan as well as the recognition of the need for further such plans. D – Staff The BoT, Director and SLT for ISB’s thorough, comprehensive and consistent school personnel policies and procedures that are well documented. E – Student Support Services The School’s philosophy of ‘mother tongue’ development in a continuum from Lower School through DP. The creation of a comprehensive school health manual. Award of CIS Re-Accreditation Commendation

F – Resources The Board of Trustees and senior management for the strategic planning in developing and realizing the new building project. The support staff (‘custodians’) for the overall maintenance and cleanliness of the buildings and grounds. The ICT staff for the perceptive and innovative introduction of ICT into the various functions of the school, including the ‘One-to-One’ program. The Crisis Response Team for the comprehensive nature of the school’s Crisis Response Manual. Award of CIS Re-Accreditation Commendation

G – Student and Community Life The School for the extensive range of methods available to facilitate the communication and interaction between the BoT, staff, students and parents. The senior management and staff for the implementation of a wide- ranging activities program that includes interaction with the local and international communities. The school community for sustaining a respectful, warm and disciplined personal environment in which to work and study. Award of CIS Re-Accreditation Commendation

A - Philosophy and Objectives The BoT and senior management build on the work done on devising the evaluation protocol and implement such a process for continued review of the Mission and Vision statements. The School seek ways of clearly promoting the understanding of the Mission and Vision statements, and the nature of the IB programs, within the parental community. The School promote further the use of local resources and strengthen its links with the local community. X – Curriculum Please see IB-style report on this area. The school should also address the following matters drawn from the team’s comments with respect to the generic CIS Curriculum Standards: Recommendations Award of CIS Re-Accreditation

C – Governance and Management The BoT and School pursue new and creative funding sources and strategies. The ISB community develop plans to increase participation by all parents, in particular local Serbian parents, through enhanced communication efforts and creative outreach, starting with translated (Serbian) versions of typical communication vehicles. D – Staff The Secondary and Lower School principals provide more structured opportunities for collaborative planning within campuses and across the whole school. E – Student Support Services The Student Services providers strive to increase the level of coordination and collaboration between sections of the school. The school consider a position to provide coordinated oversight and direction for the diverse set of support services provided at ISB. Award of CIS Re-Accreditation Recommendations

F – Resources The school continue to target improvements to the library collection to ensure that all areas of the curriculum at all age levels are adequately resourced. The school continue special emphasis on enhancing the collection of the mother tongue books to reflect the international community. The school Crisis Response Team provide a new exit for the Early Childhood Centre to provide an alternative evacuation point in case of fire and that all fire exits remain unlocked during the school day. The Crisis Response Team ensure that fire evacuation instructions and routes are clearly displayed in all classrooms. Award of CIS Re-Accreditation Recommendations

G – Student and Community Life The BoT and senior management consider the coordination of all communication between the various school constituencies and explore links with the school’s alumni. The BoT and senior management actively consider ways in which the potential of the new building can be fully exploited to enhance community and academic life. The School continue to develop and document explicit ways that demonstrate the promotion of international-mindedness and inter- cultural awareness. Award of CIS Re-Accreditation Recommendations
