17 Greetings Beginning your greeting If you ask someone “How are you?” be prepared to stick around for the answer. The typical greeting, “Good morning, how are you?” is simply a ritual. The appropriate reply is, “Fine thanks, and how are you?” Once you are introduced repeating the persons name and saying, “Hello, Dr. Wilson it is a pleasure meeting you,” is a polite technique that helps you remember a person’s name.

21 Introductions The first impression: Putting your best foot forward During introductions make eye contact, rise, smile, and shake hands with the other person. Who should be introduced to whom? Mention the most important person first (Based off of rank, not gender). Present a gentleman to a lady. A young lady to an older one. A single woman to a married woman. Names are not enough, supply a nugget of information with the name to serve as a conversation starter. You’ve been introduced, now what?
