Exposition Characters: old man (Papa Georges), Hugo, father, Isabelle, Uncle Claude, Station Inspector Setting: 1930s, train station, Paris Mood: Mysterious, Suspenseful Point of View: 3 rd Person Limited

Conflicts Man vs Man: Hugo and Papa Georges Man vs Man: Hugo and Station Inspector Man vs Self: Hugo and his feelings (sad, lonely) Man vs Technology: Hugo and the clocks Man vs Technology: Hugo and the automaton

Rising Action 1.Hugo steals mouse/old man steals notebook 2.Hugo tries to get notebook back 3.Hugo visits Isabelle to try to get notebook back 4.Flashback 1.Hugo and his dad were working on the automaton 2.Hugo’s dad dies in the museum fire (accident) and Hugo goes to live with Uncle Claude in the train station 3.Uncle Claude disappears and Hugo begins to repair the automaton 4.Hugo collects his Uncle’s paychecks, but does not cash them; he also takes care of the clocks.
