Aim: What are the structures and functions of the Compound Microscope? I. Compound Microscope – Has more than one lens. A. Parts 1. Eyepiece (ocular) – lens at top of body tube. Usually 10x magnification.

2. Body tube –holds the ocular lens and objective lens a fixed distance apart. 3. Objectives – (High power and Low power) – magnifies the image further after it has been magnified by the eyepiece. 4. Stage – Where the slide with the specimen is placed for viewing.

5. Coarse Focus – used for approximate focusing. Big knob. 6. Fine Focus – used for exact focusing. Small knob. 7. Base – supports the whole microscope. 8. Light – lights up the specimen.

9. Nosepiece – Used to switch objectives. 10. Diaphragm – adjusts the amount of light entering the stage.
