THE CALL TO WORSHIP [ Pastor / CONGREGATION] Based on 17 th century theological credos of French Protestants (Huguenots) inspired by the writings of John Calvin We believe in God WHO HAS CREATED AND IS CREATING; Who has come to us in Jesus Christ TO RECONCILE AND RENEW US;

Who works in us and others by His Spirit; WE BELIEVE IN GOD Who calls us to be His church; TO CELEBRATE HIS PRESENCE; To love and serve others; TO SEEK JUSTICE AND RESIST EVIL; To proclaim the Lord Jesus Christ: CRUCIFIED, RISEN, AND COMING AGAIN;

We believe in God who is with us BEFORE LIFE, DURING LIFE, In life after death. WE BELIEVE IN GOD; We are not alone: THANKS BE TO GOD! AMEN ! THE HUGUENOT CROSS See Handout Document

**THE OPENING HYMN #415 WE ARE CALLED TO BE GOD’S PEOPLE [ All who are able please stand ]

(1) We are called to be God’s people, Showing by our lives, His grace, One in heart and one in spirit, Sign of hope for all the race. Let us show how He has changed us And remade us as His own; Let us share our life together As we shall around His throne.

(2) We are called to be God’s servants, Working in His world today; Taking His own task upon us, All His sacred words obey. Let us rise, then, to His summons, Dedicate to Him our all, That we may be faithful servants, Quick to answer now His call.

(3) We are called to be God’s prophets, Speaking for the truth and right; Standing firm for Godly justice, Bringing evil into light. Let us seek the courage needed, Our high calling to fulfill, That we all may know the blessing of the doing of God’s will.

SILENT PRAYERS OF THANKSGIVING AND CONFESSION THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON JOHN 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.

THE SONG OF RESPONSE #548 ‘AS THE DEER’

THE SONG OF RESPONSE #548 As the deer panteth for the water So my soul longs after You. You alone are my heart’s desire, And I long to worship You. You alone are my strength and shield; To you alone may my spirit yield. You alone are my heart’s desire, And I long to worship You.

(2) You’re my friend and You are my brother, So much more that anything. I love You more than any other, So much more than any thing. You alone are my strength and shield; To you alone may my spirit yield. You alone are my heart’s desire, And I long to worship You.

(3) I want You more than gold or silver, Only You can satisfy. You alone are my real joy giver, And the apple of my eye. You alone are my strength and shield; To you alone may my spirit yield. You alone are my heart’s desire, And I long to worship You.

A TIME OF SHARING WITH GOD’S CHILDREN OF ALL AGES

THE NEW TESTAMENT SCRIPTURE LUKE 8:40-56 (The words of Jesus) Read by Deacon Melinda Post Now when Jesus returned, (from across the Sea of Galilee), a crowd welcomed Him, for they were all expecting Him. Then a man named Jairus, a synagogue leader, came and fell at Jesus’ feet, pleading with Jesus to come to his house because his only daughter, a girl of about twelve, was dying. As Jesus was on his way to the home of Jairus, the crowds almost crushed Him.

Now a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years, but no one could heal her. She came up behind Jesus and touched the edge of his cloak, and immediately her bleed- ing stopped. “Who touched me?” Jesus asked. When they all denied it, Peter said, “Master, the people are crowding and pressing against you.” But Jesus said, “Someone touched me; I know that power has gone out from me.” Then the woman, seeing that she could not go unnoticed, came trembling and fell at Jesus’ feet. In the presence of all the people, she told why she had touched Him and how she had been instantly healed. Then He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace.”

While Jesus was still speaking, someone came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue leader. “Your daughter is dead,” he said. “Don’t bother the teacher anymore.” Hearing this, Jesus said to Jairus,“Don’t be afraid; just believe, and she will be healed.” When He arrived at the house of Jairus, He did not let anyone go in with Him except Peter, John and James, and the child’s father and mother. Meanwhile, all the people were wailing and mourning for her. “Stop wailing,” Jesus said. “She is not dead but asleep.” They laughed at Him, knowing that she was dead.

But He took her by the hand and said, “My child, get up!” Her spirit returned, and at once she stood up. Then Jesus told them to give her something to eat. Her parents were astonished, but he ordered them not to tell anyone what had happened.

‘WITHOUT HIM I COULD DO NOTHING’ (1) Without Him I could do nothing; Without Him I’d surely fail; Without Him I would be drifting Like a ship without a sail Jesus, O Jesus, Do you know Him today Do not turn Him away. O Jesus, O Jesus! Without Him how lost I would be.

(2) Without Him I would be dying; Without Him I’d be enslaved. Without Him life would be hopeless; But with Jesus, thank God, I’m saved. Jesus, O Jesus, Do you know Him today Do not turn Him away. O Jesus, O Jesus! Without Him how lost I would be.

FIRST, some of God’s most profound work is accomplished during the interruptions of life.

SECOND, God timing and His plan is perfect, even when it doesn’t seem like it.

THIRD, God is sovereign over disease and death.

FOURTH, God calls us to not be afraid, but to believe and trust in Him even when life seems completely out of control.

THE CLOSING HYMN #581 ‘Tis So Sweet To Trust In Jesus’

(1) ’Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus, Just to take Him at His Word; Just to rest upon His promise, And to know, “Thus says the Lord!” Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him! How I’ve proved Him o’er and o’er; Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus! Oh, for grace to trust Him more!

(2) Oh, how sweet to trust in Jesus, Just to trust His cleansing blood; And in simple faith to plunge me ’Neath the healing, cleansing flood! Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him! How I’ve proved Him o’er and o’er; Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus! Oh, for grace to trust Him more!

(3) Yes, ’tis sweet to trust in Jesus, Just from sin and self to cease; Just from Jesus simply taking Life and rest, and joy and peace. Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him! How I’ve proved Him o’er and o’er; Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus! Oh, for grace to trust Him more!

(4) I’m so glad I learned to trust You, Precious Jesus, Savior, Friend; And I know that You are with me, Will be with me to the end. Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him! How I’ve proved Him o’er and o’er; Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus! Oh, for grace to trust Him more!
