Plant Adaptations

Think What are some challenges plants face on land? Plants overcome these challenges with special adaptations

Adaptation- Cuticle Waxy coating on leaf Prevents water loss Can be very thick or thin What do you think determines whether a plant has a thick or thin cuticle?

Adaptation- Stomata Stoma open and close to control gas exchange and water loss Made up of two guard cells

Adaptation- Vascular Tissue Transports nutrients, water, carbs, and waste around the plant Xylem- moves material up from the roots Phloem- transports material down from the leaves

Adaptation- Seeds Contain embryo, nutrients, and coat Able to survive harsh environments

Plant Classification Nonvascular Vascular Liverworts Mosses Hornworts Nonseed Plants Ferns Horsetails Club Mosses Seed Plants Anthophytes Conifers Gnetophytes Cycads Ginkgoes
