Early buildings & forts Most of the early buildings were forts. When France and Spain tried to destroy the English Tudor harbours, blockhouses were made. These were small, strong forts with cannons pointing in all directions.

Early buildings & forts Henrican castles were one of the only forts made near the end of the Tudor times. In the mid-1500’s, cannons were invented, and it was a huge threat to forts. So they adapted them to the cannons. To make them less vulnerable they made the walls rounded and made them small and strong.

Poor peoples houses Poor people couldn't afford much, so generally the house was made up of 1 small room and a hole acting as a window, although in late Elizabethan times glass was cheaper so most people could afford windows. The house itself was made of timber and cost around 1000 pounds (£100 today).

What is the difference between Tudor buildings & modern buildings? Tudor houses were generally bigger than modern houses, but modern houses have more windows. Tudor palaces had larger, and narrower bricks than a palace today. Wood was used a whole lot more then because air bricks are used instead of wood.

Defending weapons. To begin with pikes and spears were mostly used to defend forts. When cannons were invented they were installed into forts because they were really powerful. When guns were invented no one used forts..
