Development Review Personality, cognitive, and moral development

What have we learned in this unit? Personality is a fixed pattern of behavior Different psychologists have different explanations for a person’s development Some psychologists have identified specific stages in a person’s development Some psychologists focus on a person’s inner conflict, some focus on what a person learns during development, some focus on people’s ability to control their own personality Other psychologists focused on the development of the way people THINK

Review Activity #1 For each adult behavior, explain how a psychoanalytic, learning, and humanist psychologist would link the behavior to their theory on personality development: 1.A child who was bullied is a criminal later in life 2.A little girl’s father reads to her every night before bed, and she later loves to write short stories 3.A teenager who loves to compete with his/her peers becomes successful later in life 4.An 8 year old child who struggles with his multiplication tables rejects all jobs that requires higher level mathematics (when he is an adult)

Review Activity #2 Think about a behavior, any behavior that a person between 1-19 years old would perform Write that behavior down on a strip of paper Write the AGE of the child on the paper too Turn it in to me… Then, once they are all turned in, select ONE piece of paper…

Review Activity #2 Think about HOW 3 DIFFERENT psychologists would explain the behavior (at that age) How would they explain the reasons for why that behavior happened? Choose from these psychologists: Freud Erikson Kohlberg Piaget

Review Activity # 3: The Fly Swatter Directions: You will be divided into 2 groups. ONE person from each group will be in control of the fly swatter at a time. FOUR terms/names will appear on the board. Listen to the clue and “swat” the correct answer. The teammates MUST remain quiet…don’t tell them the answers, because then you will tell the OTHER team the answer!
