Wal-Mart’s Innovation of Technology Shipping department Human Resources Sales Department Ordering Process

Wal-Mart Shipping Department Past At the beginning Sam Walton counted with only his ford truck as a way of gathering and delivering its products. Wal-Mart did not have a lot of technology at that time. At that time Wal-Mart did not offer programs like shipping The Director of Wal-Mart Sam Walton implemented new strategies to improve the way the company was managed. By developing these methods they ended up in many successful results. He tried to experiment new ideas, whether it was delivering or reading management books to copy useful.

Walt-Mart did not have systems like shipping and ordering programs. Most customers would go to the store and purchase what they wanted.

Present As a result of e-commerce and purchases by phone Wal-Mart offers shipping services. Wal-Mart have a shipping system that is in network with the inventory department which check for the availability of the products. then the merchandise is chipped to the customer. Orders are shipped by priority and express mail, but the have some restrictions for certain products like arm guns, explosives and food.

Future Wal-Mart is a company that is always improving. Wal-Mart is planning to have their own delivery trucks for faster delivery service in order to improve the customer satisfaction.

Human Resources Past As a result of lack of technology the hiring process was longer. Applications were made in store and resumes were submitted by handwriting. Interviews were conducted trough the waiting of long lines by person.

Present Nowadays, Wal-Mart has a quicker hiring system. Job postings are now available through the web and also resumes can be submitted by fax or web. With the new technology interviews can be schedule ahead of time avoiding long lines.

Future Wal-Mart is thinking of better ways of processing applications. Interviews could be done through video conferencing.

Sales Department Past Wal-Mart started just like any other store with no cash registers. The use of calculators was widely use during large transactions. There was no such things as scanners to keep up with the inventory. The only payment option was cash.

Sales Department Present Electronic Registers became available. Scanners on the registers where implemented to help with the inventory process. Credit card and debit card processing system was implemented. Faster check-outs where develop.

Sales Department Future Speedier check-out process. Touch screen systems enameling the customer to avoid long check out lines. Most of the sales are going to be able to be conducted thru the website.

Ordering Department Past In the past, Wal-Mart did not count with enough technology to keep track the orders to the suppliers. The supplier orders were made by mail, and sometimes by telephone when there was urgency. Orders sometimes were delayed.

Present Wal-Mart is the unique company that has the same powerful information system that only the government has. The system that is used today is connected to the different departments. When a product is sold it automatically reduces the inventory, thus sending up the order when ever the product becomes low, sending the order to the supplier.

Future Wal-Mart likes to be in continuous change and is not afraid to test new advances. They are thinking in how they can improve this system by making the things more efficient.

Conclusion By implementing all the future process Wal- Mart will be continuing to dominate all the retail store.
