Simple Present Tense Third person singular: verb + s/es Most verbs add -s: works, drives, plays, runs Verbs ending in –o, -s(s), -x, -ch, -sh add -es: does, misses, mixes, catches, pushes * When there is a consonant before –y change y to –ies (cry - cries)

Simple Present Tense USE Statements that are always true. e.g. Summer follows spring. Events, actions, actions or situations which are true in present period. e.g. My sister wears glasses. Habitual actions, things that happen repeatedly. e.g. I get up at 7 o’clock.

Simple Present Tense USE * Adverbs and prepositional phrases: always, never, sometimes, from time to time, every day... To ask and answer questions which begin with ‘How often’ e.g. How often do you go to the dentist? I go every six months.

Simple Present Tense USE Questions relating to habit can be asked with ever and answerd with never. e.g. Do you ever eat meat? No, I never eat meat. For timetables and programs or events in the calendar. e.g. The concert begins at 7.30 and ends in 9.30.
