The Writing Process Common Core Standards address: Different purposes for writing Edit, Revising, and Publishing Researching Writing over extended periods of time

Building Writing Skills Beginning Use capital letters at the beginning of sentence Use punctuation at the end of a sentence Understand there are different types of writing Intermediate Consistently use correct, basic capitalization and punctuation Write in complete sentences Organize sentences based on topic Create and publish a variety of writings (narrative, opinion, informational) Begin to use voice and understand there is an audience Advanced Consistently use correct, basic capitalization and punctuation Organize writing with beginning, middle, and end Uses paragraphs and organizes paragraphs Uses transitions (First, Second, Last, Next, etc…) Produces a variety of writings
