Founder: Peter Minuit and others in 1626 Founded for trade and furs. New York had many rivers and fertile soil. It is also located in the Appalachian Mountains. New York’s main religion was Protestantism. They fled here to escape the religious persecution of their non-Catholic beliefs in Europe. New York had a prospering economy due to it having large cities such as New York City. Also, New York played a role in producing ships so a lot of money was profited from that industry. New York began as the Dutch trading outpost of New Netherland in 1614.

Founder: Lord Berkeley and Sir George Carteret (1664) Founded for farming and trade. The land consisted of rich farmland and two main rivers. New Jersey also consists of many forests. The religions of New Jersey were the Dutch Reformed Church and the Baptists. The role of it was to provide an area for the Dutch. New Jersey had a fairly decent economy. Since rivers ran through it, people were able to export and import large masses of goods. New Jersey was given to the Duke of York by his brother.

Founder: William Penn (March 4, 1681) Founded to have freedom of religion Pennsylvania had many forests and mountains. Religion played a key role in Pennsylvania. The main religious group was the Quakers. The Quakers believed that all religions should be accepted though so Pennsylvania served as a safe haven for a plethora of other religions. Pennsylvania was able to depend on itself because it was very rich in natural resources. A large portion of the economy depended on farming. William Penn stated that if any colonists wants to obtain new land he must obtain it by buying it from the Native Americans.

Founder: Peter Minuit and New Sweden Company (1638) Founded for trade and furs Delaware had fertile soil. There was no clearly stated religion in Delaware. The majority of the people who lived there were self-identified Christians. Religion didn’t serve a clear role in the colony. Delaware’s economy was based primarily of off trade and farming. It was easy to trade and transport these goods because the Chesapeake River is in Delaware. Delaware was a part of Pennsylvania, but it was never fully considered an actual colony.
