Steve Petch Sunday 22 nd February 2015 A Grace Filled Church Part 4: Grace To Carry On Gal 2v16 – 3v14

Who finds that living the Christian life is hard sometimes? Grace To Carry On

As Christians we will either be… … people who live by FAITH and THE HOLY SPIRIT or … people who live by RELIGIOUS RULES and HUMAN EFFORT Grace To Carry On

Religious rule keeping is not the way to a happy relationship with God Grace To Carry On

16: We know that a person is made right with God by faith in Jesus Christ, not by obeying the law … 16: no one will ever be made right with God by obeying the law. 19: when I tried to keep the law, it condemned me. 20: My old self has been crucified with Christ. 20: It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. 21: For if keeping the law could make us right with God, then there was no need for Christ to die. Grace To Carry On

1.Religious rule keeping doesn’t make us right with God; only faith in Jesus does that 2.When we genuinely become Christians, we begin to change; from the inside out, not from the outside in 3.If we go back to external religious rule keeping and human effort, we are saying, “I don’t need Jesus”

As Christians we will either be… … people who live by FAITH and THE HOLY SPIRIT or … people who live by RELIGIOUS RULES and HUMAN EFFORT Grace To Carry On

YOUR LIFE: “After starting your Christian life in the Spirit, are you now trying to become perfect by human effort?” Don’t ask: “What is allowed? What are the rules?” Ask: “How can I live to most please God?” Grace To Carry On

OUR CHURCH: As a church we will either be… … people who live by FAITH and THE HOLY SPIRIT or … people who live by RELIGIOUS RULES and HUMAN EFFORT Grace To Carry On

NEW CHRISTIANS: 1.Religious rule keeping doesn’t make us right with God; only faith in Jesus does that 2.When we genuinely become Christians, we begin to change; from the inside out, not from the outside in 3.If we go back to external religious rule keeping and human effort, we are saying, “I don’t need Jesus” Grace To Carry On

NEW CHRISTIANS: How much should someone be living a Christian lifestyle before you would think they were ready to be baptised? How much should they change before you would want to make them a church member? Grace To Carry On

As Christians, and as a church we will either be… … people who live by FAITH and THE HOLY SPIRIT or … people who live by RELIGIOUS RULES and HUMAN EFFORT Grace To Carry On
