A cautionary tale? Ashley Payne was a teacher at Appalachee High in Barrow County Georgia up until a short while ago, but claims she was fired after some pictures of her on Facebook drinking and an expletive were shown to her superiors. The Barrow County school district claimed that Ashley had to go because her profile page had pictures of her with beer mugs and wine glasses from her European vacation. facebook-pictures html

MY Tattoo

Digital Immigrant or Digital Native? Who are you? What do you do online? Where do you put in your name or online? Do you check to see if the site is secure before entering information? What digital devices do you use?

Reflect? Where are you on this scale?

Hiring Will my place on the digital immigrant - native scale affect hiring? Will my Digital Tattoo affect hiring?

Technology in education What’s there? What will I have to use? Who will support me? What do I need to know? How are things changing?

Differentiation Gardner’s Multiple Intelligences Smartboards 1:1 Initiatives UDL Blogs, Wikis

Keys to success Be flexible. With any lesson a plan B (and C) is necessary. It’s not about what you know, it’s about skills. Try, fail, succeed, reflect, help, ask, share, share, share. Don’t be ashamed to say “I don’t know” Participate These are some keys to success in teaching, they work really well for technology as well!

What to do? Use technology as Cognitive Tools, work Constructively, work Socially Create your Personal Learning Network, create a digital portfolio (blog or wiki) twitter suggestions (tweacher reasources)- edtechbc, langwitches, web20classroom web suggestions -

Reflect? Where do you think you need to be on that scale to be effective as a teacher in the future?

Thank you Questions? Jarrod Bell Principal of Technology School District
