Alternative Water Supply Project
October 5, 2004Former DuPont Barksdale Works Project Update5 Pipeline Construction Update Alternative Water Supply n Construction started first week of August n Approximately 46,100 feet of main (ductile iron pipe and HDPE) and service lateral (copper line to homes) was specified in the design. n To date, approximately 50% of the pipeline (based on lineal footage) has been constructed. – Approximately 70% of the total main (~32,400 ft.) has been constructed. – Approximately 19% of the total service lateral length (~13,700) has been constructed.

October 5, 2004Former DuPont Barksdale Works Project Update14 Pipeline Construction Update Alternative Water Supply n Near term schedule: – Anticipate completion of ductile iron pipe installation north of Nolander Road within a week. – Main will be reduced to 4-inch south of Nolander to end of pipeline (just north of Boyd’s creek) and in Birch Grove. – Multiple crews will be assigned to lateral line construction. – Continue restoration of: n Roadways and culverts. n Shoulders and ditches (grading and seeding). n Private properties.
October 5, 2004Former DuPont Barksdale Works Project Update15 Pipeline Construction Update Alternative Water Supply n Birch Grove Schedule: – Anticipate within the next two weeks that construction will begin and should take approximately 5 to 10 days, depending on subsurface conditions. – Due to limited space, vehicular traffic will be restricted during main line construction.
October 5, 2004Former DuPont Barksdale Works Project Update16 Pipeline Construction Update Alternative Water Supply n Construction completion targeted for end of calendar year 2004, assuming: – No regulatory delays. – Outstanding contractor performance (construction and safety). – Favorable weather. – No unforeseen or unmanageable technical issues. n A few private properties will likely have to be fully restored (final grading and seeding) in 2005, due to weather issues. n Wetlands issues at three properties have yet to be resolved; therefore, these lateral lines may be completed in 2005.
Other Barksdale Site Work
October 5, 2004Former DuPont Barksdale Works Project Update18 Residential Monitoring n April 2004 sampling results transmitted to WDNR in August. n Annual change-out of carbon cylinders has been completed. n Eighty-two homes sampled at the end of August. – Preliminary results indicate no new detections of site-related compounds. Carbon filters continue to be effective. – Report of results pending.
October 5, 2004Former DuPont Barksdale Works Project Update19 Site Investigation n Construction of new monitoring wells (10) will be completed this week. n Additional groundwater sampling to be conducted in 4Q2004. n Anticipate preliminary results in December 2004.
October 5, 2004Former DuPont Barksdale Works Project Update20 Miscellaneous Site Work n Continuing work with Adventus to evaluate a new generation of soil amendments to reduce concentrations of nitroaromatic/nitramine compounds in soil. – Generation 3 product uses nano-scale zero valent iron. n Continuing Georgia Tech research on destruction of TNT. n Small repair on stream diversion to be undertaken during the 4 th quarter.
October 5, 2004Former DuPont Barksdale Works Project Update21 Home Value Protection Program n Three homes purchased to date. Two have been resold. n Highway 13 – purchased on June 29 th – Home is in poor condition. – Structural and moisture issues exist. – Interior mold issues exist. – DuPont is currently soliciting bids for removal of the structure. n Program will remain in effect until six months after alternative water is available.
