Plan for my recycling robot By: Linda Bouguila

Gather the materials (1) The materials needed to make this product are: 1.Main parts : Body made from resistant material (skeleton), a mechanical filter, an analyzing box, 5 bags and drawers, 6 tubes: 5 tubes to connect the analyzing box to all the bags and 1 tube to connect the filter to the general waste bag. 2.Sensors: Eddy current separator, near infrared sensor.

Gather the materials (2)

Building (1) 1.First, place the filter inside the skeleton, in the upper part, which should take between 10 and 15 seconds. 2.Place the 1 st tube in order to catch all the things that will pass through the filter and connect it to the general waste bag, which would take approximately 10 seconds. 3.Place the analyzing box in the center part of the skeleton, which would take about 20 seconds.

Building (2) 3. Place the analyzing box’s trap (trap AB) below the analyzing box. Place the five remaining traps below the first trap. This would take between 15 and 20 seconds. 4.Place the tubes between the traps and the bags; the upper side of the tube underneath the correspondent trap, and its lower side to its relevant bag, which would take about 20 seconds. 5.Connect the five traps to the CPU (brain). This would take about 15 seconds. 6.Place the Eddy current separator in the analyzing box and connect it to the CPU. This step would take about 25 seconds.

Building (3) 7.Place the Near infrared sensor in the analyzing box and connect it to the CPU. This step should also take about 20 seconds. So, building the whole robot would take less than 2o minutes, about 15, without needing to have a lot of skills.

Instructions (1) Add instructions (CPU programming instructions): Step 1: Grab an item from the filter with the ‘hand’, Step 2: Send the item to the analyzing box, Step 3: Activate the Eddy current separator, Step 4: Check the test’s result Step 4-a): If the test is successful, Open trap M, Then open trap AB, Go to Step 1.

Instructions (2) Step 4-b): If the test is unsuccessful, go to step 5. Step 5: Activate the Near infrared sensor. Step 6: Check the test’s result. If plastic has been identified, go to step 6-a). If paper has been identified, go to step 6-b). If glass has been identified, go to step 6-c). Otherwise, go to step 6-d). Step 6-a): Open trap P1, Then open trap AB, Go to Step 1.

Instructions (3) Step 6-b): Open trap P2, Then open trap AB, Go to Step 1. Step 6-c): Open trap G, Then open trap AB, Go to Step 1. Step 6-d): Open trap GW, Then open trap AB, Go to Step 1.

Evaluation of the plan The plan of my robot is not very hard and doesn’t require neither a lot of skills, nor a lot of time. I think that 15 minutes is a reasonable time to build the robot compared to all the programs and sensors it has. I think my plan is quite easy and doesn’t require a lot of thinking as it has many detailed steps.
