Stooping to a Higher Level He washes their feet! John 13:1-17

His time had come John 12:7-8 ‘Leave her alone,’ Jesus replied. ‘It was intended that she should save this perfume for the day of my burial. You will always have the poor among you, but you will not always have me.’

The devil had already prompted Judas Iscariot to betray Him. Matthew 26:14-16 Then one of the Twelve—the one called Judas Iscariot—went to the chief priests and asked, “What are you willing to give me if I deliver him over to you?” So they counted out for him thirty pieces of silver. From then on Judas watched for an opportunity to hand him over.

To teach them the greatest lesson in the Kingdom of God Matthew 20:20-24 Then the mother of Zebedee’s sons came to Jesus with her sons and, kneeling down, asked a favor of him. “What is it you want?” he asked. She said, “Grant that one of these two sons of mine may sit at your right and the other at your left in your kingdom.” “You don’t know what you are asking,” Jesus said to them.

“Can you drink the cup I am going to drink?” “We can,” they answered. Jesus said to them, “You will indeed drink from my cup, but to sit at my right or left is not for me to grant. These places belong to those for whom they have been prepared by my Father.” When the ten heard about this, they were indignant with the two brothers. Jesus called them together and said,

“You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave— just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Mark 9:33-34 ‘What were you arguing about on the road?’ But they kept quiet because on the way they had argued about who was the greatest. Luke 22:34 Also a dispute arose among them as to which one of them was the greatest.

Jesus knew His sovereign authority, His origin, and coming destiny, yet He voluntarily took the place of a slave washing His disciples feet. A Godly leader will be a SERVANT

Actions speak louder than words We are never TOO BIG or TOO GREAT or TOO IMPORTANT to be of SERVICE to someone else.

Mark 10:42-45 Jesus called them together and said, “You know that those who are regarded as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and who ever wants to be first must be slave of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Conclusion Jesus is our greatest example Are we willing to follow His example?
