CAL AND CRILLY AND THE THEME OF VIOLENCE AND CONFLICT Jonathan, Mark, Yvonne, Megan, Ross and Michaela

Background violence and conflict in Ireland Conflict in Northern Ireland has killed thousands Protestant unionist community believe it should remain part of UK Catholic nationalist community, believe it should leave UK and join the Republic Of Ireland 1969 – Catholic civil rights marches and protestant loyalists marches spiralled into violent arrest. Irish troops were sent out but came into conflict with IRA Situation got worse. The northern Ireland parliament was suspended and direct rule from London was put in place 1970, 1980, 1990 paramilitary groups used violent campaigns to peruse goals Police and British forces try to keep order even to this day.

Crilly beats up young boy in bathroom which makes Cal feel guilty Cal involved in one of Crillys wrong doings this time robbery of an off-licence store Crilly enjoys violence and Can order cal about due to Cal accepting the gun from Crilly I nvolvement in the death of Marcella’s husband. Cal wants nothing more to do with Crilly or the IRA. Cal doesn’t agree with the violence Crilly partakes in Cal and Crilly’s Relationship

Conflict and violence cal – crilly and skeffington cal and shamie against neighbourhood cals inner conflict

Cal doesn't want to help Crilly and Skeffington in their violence Cal made to be a driver by Crilly and Skeffington Cal meets Skeffington at football match and insists he wants out but Skeffington doesn't take lightly to this statement Police end up coming to arrest the three but Cal manages to escape which then ends up resulting in Crilly and Skeffington turning Cal in Cal's conflict with Skeffington and Crilly

Note with threats through the front door. Cal given another scare as he gets jumped by three loyalists. Scared about what could happen to him and his dad during the night. Forced to have a gun for protection. Cal and Shamie’s house gets set on fire. Neighbourhood has split opinions Towards them after the fire. Cal and Shamie’s conflict against neighbourhood

Cals inner conflict is stemmed from the events of his horrible past. The violence that Cal participates in aggravates his inner conflict Cal’s self-hatred leads to him insulting himself Cal believes Marcella can rescue him from his past Cal believes he isn't worthy to be part of Marcella and her daughters life Cal believes he isn't good enough CAL’S Inner Conflict
