HIV & STI Transmission & Prevention HIV/ STI is spread through sexual activity (oral, vaginal, anal) and injecting drugs It is very unlikely for an adolescent who abstains from sexual activity or injecting drugs to contract an STI or HIV Adolescents who use condoms reduce the risk of contracting an STI or HIV through sexual activity Adolescents who partake in unprotected sexual activity or inject drugs increase the risk of contracting an STI or HIV

Prevention Tips & Strategies Having only one uninfected sex partner and not injecting drugs eliminates risk of HIV/ STI Using latex condoms with contraceptive foa reduces the risk of HIV/STI Avoiding having multiple sex partners, alcohol and other drugs also reduces the risk of contracting HIV/STI Anyone who contracts an STI/HIV should go to a doctor or medical clinic for treatment

continued... Persons who contract STI/HIV should tell sexual partner so they can get checked or treated Persons with STI/ HIV should abstain from sexual intercourse until they are cured or no longer infectious

Having only one uninfected sex partner also reduces the risk of HIV/STD. Using latex condoms reduces the risk of HIV/STD. Avoiding multiple sex partners and alcohol and other drugs also reduces the risk of contracting HIV/STD. Persons who have HIV/STD should go to a doctor or medical clinic for treatment. Persons with HIV/STD should tell sexual partners so they can get checked and treated. Persons with STDs should abstain from sexual intercourse until they are cured or no longer infectious
