Georgian Context The population – 4,490,000, women % Women in employment %, 15% lower than that of Georgian men; Only 38% females employed in business sector Only 11.6 % of women elected in Local Government Georgia has one of the lowest representations of women in parliament among OSCE countries -17 from150 parliamentarians' ( 11.3 %)

Public perceptions on gender equality 52% (men, women) believe that women cannot be as successful in a career as man; Only 37% of men think that men and women should make decisions together; Only 11% think that men and women should contribute equally to the family budget; 57% believe that men have better chances of being employed in high ranking positions

Program “Empowering Women for Change” Goal: to promote gender equality and women’s civic and economic empowerment in the two regions of Georgia Strategy:  Create women’s community groups in selected communities;  Strengthen the leadership capacity of women in local development processes and start-up business enterprises  facilitate development of links between identified groups/women and local government institutions, CSO sector and local business representatives
