Displacement when an object is submerged in water, it displaces (pushes away) a volume of water equal to the volume of the object. We can use this to find the volume of irregular shaped objects 1 mL of water = 1 cm3
To find volume using Displacement… Fill graduated cylinder with water (enough to submerge object, not enough to overflow). Record initial water level. Submerge object in water. Record final water level.
To find volume using Displacement… Subtract the initial measurement from the final measurement change unit from mL to cm3 Difference between the two measurements IS the volume of the object!
