By the end of the lesson we need to be able to answer this question: What is a Christian God like? Explain… 1.What is a Christian? 2.What is ‘God’?

 This activity is all about your thoughts & your opinions…  You need to think about what you are writing…  You can simply write 1 word answers… Think about ‘God’… 1.What is the 1 st thing that you think of? 2.Is God a ‘he’ or a ‘she’ or an ‘it’? 3.If God was an animal – what animal would he be? 4.If God was a sound – what sounds would he be? 5.If God was a feeling – what feeling would he be? 6.If God was a colour – what colour would he be? 7.If God was a person – what sort of person would he be? Now… you have 2 minutes (quietly!) to go back through your answers & for each answer to explain what you have written – start with the word ‘because…’ What did you write…and why?

There are 3 words to do with what people believe about god(s)… Does anybody know what these words mean? In your ‘RE Dictionaries’ in the back of your books, match up these words to their definitions: Theist Monotheist Polytheist TheistBelief in more than one god MonotheistBelief in god or gods PolytheistBelief in one god

Christians believe in something called ‘the Trinity’ – how much can you tell me about the Trinity (try looking at the word!)? The Trinity… Christians believe there is only 1 God, but… …that God has 3 separate parts which are: 1. God the father, who made the world. 2. God the Son, who came into the world as a man and was called Jesus Christ. 3. God the Holy Spirit, the part of God that Christians believe lives inside them. …but for Christians this is still only one God. Confused??!! You could describe the Trinity as a ‘Mars bar’ – who wants to eat a ‘Mars bar’ to help us explain????

 Christians believe that there is only ____ God.  Therefore, Christianity is a polytheistic/monotheistic (write only the correct word) religion.  However, they believe that God is separated into ____ parts.  Christians call this the ___________.  You could remember this by looking at an apple…  Label the apple below to show how this might help you remember the 3 parts of God in the Trinity…  Looking at 1 thing that has 3 parts could help Christians remember the Trinity because ____________________________________.

As a class, can we answer these questions from the work that we have done today?  Think of another thing that is 3 things in 1 and therefore could be used to help to describe the Trinity.  Draw it in your books & describe how the different parts of it are like the 3 parts of the Trinity. What is a Christian God like?
