James 4:13-5:6 Future ?

I Can Plan my Future without God’s Help 1 James 4:13-16

v. 13 “Go to now, ye that say, To day or tomorrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain:” Assume we Will be here tomorrow Death is Always Distant to us

v. 14 “Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.” MIST Appears Disappears

6. My days are swifter than a weaver's shuttle, and are spent without hope. 7 ¶ O remember that my life is wind: mine eye shall no more see good. 8 The eye of him that hath seen me shall see me no more: thine eyes are upon me, and I am not.

9. As the cloud is consumed and vanisheth away: so he that goeth down to the grave shall come up no more. 10. He shall return no more to his house, neither shall his place know him any more.

v.15 For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that. Paul = “If the Lord will” - “permit” Heb 6:3 “And this will we do, if God permit.”

v.16 But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil.  Ignore God – did not need God  Man was self-sufficient Prov. 27:1 ¶ Boast not thyself of tomorrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.

I Can Plan my Future without God’s Help 1 James 4:13-16

My failure to live up to what I Know, will be excused 2 James 4:17 “Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.”

God will judge every man by his works God will judge every man by his works - Rom. 2:6 “Who will render to every man according to his deeds.” God does not pick favorites God does not pick favorites - Romans 2:11 “For there is no respect of persons with God.” We must know and do God’s will to please Him.

James 4:17 teaches that it is sinful to know and not perform Many in the church know but do not perform ! Sin of Omission Assume they are good because they are not bad !!!

“And when he saw a fig tree in the way, he came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaves only, and said unto it, Let no fruit grow on thee henceforward for ever. And presently the fig tree withered away.” Not badNot harmful Cursed because it HAD NO FRUIT !!

Some argue they should go to heaven because they have done nothing bad. V. 42,43 One talent man – was wicked v.26 God defines wickedness as failing to do good.

My failure to live up to what I Know, will be excused 2 James 4:17 “Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.”

If I get enough of this world’s Goods, I will be secure 3 James 5:1-3

1 ¶ Come now, you rich, weep and howl for your miseries that are coming upon you! 2 Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are moth-eaten. 3 Your gold and silver are corroded, and their corrosion will be a witness against you and will eat your flesh like fire. You have heaped up treasure in the last days.

Their life was being destroyed Miseries are coming upon them  Cannot feel secure in riches  Not good just because we are poor Salvation is not determined by our financial condition !!!!

If I get enough of this world’s Goods, I will be secure 3 James 5:1-3

How I get Riches is Nobody’s business 4 James 5:4-6

v. 4 Indeed the wages of the laborers who mowed your fields, which you kept back by fraud, cry out; and the cries of the reapers have reached the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth. v. 5 You have lived on the earth in pleasure and luxury; you have fattened your hearts as in a day of slaughter.

v. 6 You have condemned, you have murdered the just; he does not resist you. Law of Sowing and Reaping Gal. 6:7-8 Golden Rule Matt. 7:12

How I get Riches is Nobody’s business 4 James 5:4-6 How we get riches is God’s business and we must be honest in how we obtain all we possess.

James 4:13-5:6

1.I can plan my future without God’s help 2.My failure to live up to what I know will be excused 3.If I get enough of this world’s goods I shall be secure 4.How I get riches is nobody’s business

“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” Matt. 6:33 “Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.” Col. 3:2
