UNIT 1 USER SIDE OF A WEBSITE Cambridge Technicals

User side You have been asked to explain the following terms and comment on how each can affect how well a website works. Connection speed Browser version PC memory (cache and RAM)

Connection speed Carry out research into the different ways of connecting to the internet. As a minimum. you should look at:  Dial-up  Cable  Mobile  ADSL  Wi-fi For each one, investigate: The maximum speed available The availability geographically The typical cost of each connection method The effect of each one on a user and on business This web site may help you: server-side-effects/ server-side-effects/

Browser version You have already looked at the range of browesers available. In this section, investigate the differences in function between different versions of ONE browser. These web sites may help you: Tutorial.shtml Tutorial.shtml What effect could the choice of browser have on the effectiveness of a website?

PC memory (RAM) and cache size Find out what is meant by these two terms and the effect they can have on computer performance. Link this to the effect they would have on a user and business when accessing or running a website which contains high resolution graphics, video or sound files.

How do I present my work? Some of this section, such as the comparison between connection methods, would be best presented as a table. The rest could be done as a report or presentation.
