The Circulatory System Problems and Caring for your Circulatory System

What’s in our blood?

Plasma: the liquid part of our blood. Red blood cells: carry oxygen. White blood cells: attack and destroy pathogens that enter the body and stop them from causing infection. Platelets: small parts of the blood that help blood to clot htm

Problems of the Circulatory System Atherosclerosis: ▫Buildup of fatty deposits on the inner lining of arteries. These deposits narrow and harden the arteries, reducing blood flow.

Problems Continued Hypertension: ▫Otherwise known as high blood pressure ▫Makes the heart work too hard and damages arteries

Problems Continued Heart Attack ▫An event in which blood flow to part of the heart is blocked. The part of the heart deprived of adequate blood flow may be permanently damaged.

Problems Continued Stroke: ▫An event in which an artery that carries blood in the brain bursts or is blocked, depriving part of the brain of oxygen and causing damage that may be permanent.

Problems Continued Stress ▫Can play a part in problems such as headaches, high blood pressure, heart problems, diabetes, skin conditions, asthma, or arthritis ▫Can also play a part in depression and anxiety. ▫Did you know – 43% of adults suffer adverse health effects from stress?

Caring for your Circulatory System 1.Reduce the amount of fat in your diet. 2.Exercise regularly. 3.Avoid tobacco products, including smokeless tobacco. 4.Maintain a healthful weight. 5.Practice stress management. 6.Spend time with family members and close friends. ▫Contact with people and pets can reduce stress and blood pressure!
