FROM CELLS TO BODY SYSTEMS

From Cells to System Cells are the basic building blocks of life. Each cell in your body does a particular job. Tissues are groups of similar cells that do the same kind of work. An organ is a structure that is made up of different types of tissues that do a particular job. A body system is a group of organs that perform a body function.

Relationships Among the body Systems Body systems are interrelated. That means that they work together and depend on one another to keep the body functioning well.

Body Systems The skeletal and muscular systems work together to support and move the body and protect organs. The circulatory system brings food and oxygen to cells and takes wastes away. The respiratory system carries oxygen to blood and removes carbon dioxide.

The nervous system controls all body systems; sends and receives messages; and helps you see, hear, taste, smell, and feel. The digestive and excretory systems break down food for energy and get rid of wastes. The endocrine system produces hormones that regulate body functions.

How do Care For Your Body Systems ?

Caring for Your Body Systems Get plenty of rest. Eat healthful foods and drink plenty of water. Avoid alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs. Stay active. Use good posture.
