9 th EVS GTR Meeting Task Force #9 Status Report Changchun, September 17th 2015

TF #9 Activities China Proposal for Low State of Charge (SOC) Indicator China submitted an updated proposal: – Require a low state of charge indicator light (yellow color with specified symbol). – There should be sufficient energy in the REESS to move the vehicle out of traffic and to operate the lighting system Discussion in face-to-face TF #9 meeting on September 15 – Low SOC indicator should follow requirements for low fuel indicator – Canada, Japan, EU do not require low fuel indicator but require use of a standard symbol if a low fuel indictor is provided. – China requires a low fuel indicator and requires a standard symbol. Additional discussion is needed to determine the need for this indicator light, specifications of the light and symbol, and the conditions under which such an indicator light is required.

TF #9 Activities US Draft Proposal for Warning Light The US proposal requires a warning (red light) visible to the driver when: – BMS is disabled or inoperable (includes a draft test procedure) – a significant thermal event (temperature significantly greater than maximum operating temperature) occurs within battery pack Discussion in face-to-face TF #9 meeting on September 15 – No test procedure for thermal event warning. Seeking input from other task forces and others. The goal is for a test procedure that is not design restrictive and/or intrusive. – Special consideration is needed for multiple propulsion systems where the battery pack shuts down when BMS is disabled. – Review color of warning light – may be a behavior/culture issue. Additional discussion is needed to further refine proposal – Other task forces may provide input on warning lights and associated test procedures.

TF #9 Next Steps Teleconference on October 28, 2015 at 6:30 am Further discuss China and US proposal to get agreement
