Project Brief To develop evidence based holistic and cost effective strategies to help communities in contributing to reduce the demand and consumption of alcohol and other drugs.

1. To offer reliable information about alcohol and drug use to communities within the City of Cape Town 2. Render services in tiers 1, 2 & 5 of the City’s Seamless Services Delivery model (New Financial Year) 3. Partner with the Department of Health in establishing 8 Sub District Alcohol and Drug Action Committees 4. Offer input and secretariat support the 8 Sub District Alcohol and Drug Action committees 5. Actively participate in the Cape Town Alcohol and Drug Action Committee 6. Develop, encourage and support evidence based prevention and harm reduction programmes

 Establish SDF task team  Audit and assess all work done in the field of alcohol and drugs in 2009  Facilitate drug & alcohol abuse information sessions across all districts  Team still to be formalized  Access to departments’ 6 monthly report gained  Presentation and content still to be finalized

 Pilot seamless services model in one district in conjunction with Health  Establish sub district alcohol and drug action committee in conjunction with the Dept of Health  Sensitize existing Local Drug Action Committees about the 8 sub district drug and alcohol action committees  Programme dependent on Province’s involvement  Meetings held with SA coordinator & meeting with developers to follow  Initial meetings already held with Mitchell’s plain & Helderberg LDAC

 MRC follow up presentation on what constitutes evidence based programmes for identified team members  Desktop research on evidence based prevention practices globally in order to develop an evidence based prevention plan for the City of Cape Town  Presentation will be done when Nadine Harker returns from maternity leave in May  Relevant websites sourced
