3.6 Model Direct Variation Predict You will write and graph direct variation equations. How do you write and graph direct variation equations? You will learn how to answer this question by recognizing situations that represent direct variation and identifying the constant of variation.

Rewrite the equation so y is a function of x. 1. 4x – 2y = –8 ANSWER y = 2x + 4 2. –9x + 3y = 21 ANSWER y = 3x + 7

3. You are traveling by bus. After 4.5 hours, the bus has traveled 234 miles. Use the formula d = rt where d is distance, r is rate, and t is time to find the average rate of speed of the bus. ANSWER 52 mi/h
