Expected Gain Formula Dr. Julie Ford, Director State and Federal Programs Teresa L. White, Education Consultant State and Federal Programs

What Is The Expected Gain Formula?

A method to recognize schools that are making gains even though the school has not met targets yet for QPA, for one or more years in: Reading Math Science History/Government Writing

FORMULA APPLIES TO ALL STUDENT GROUP SCHOOL CHOOSES TO USE FORMULA KSBE DETERMINES PERCENTAGE FOR INCREASE QPA REGULATION (b) (1-4) QPA REGULATION (b) (1-4)

# below standard X % gain + #meeting standard = Target Percentage 36/112 = students meeting standard Students tested or 32% 76 x.04 = students not meeting standards X sample expected gains – rate of 4% Conditionally Accred. To Accred. On Improvement 2 consecutive years of Improvement Peer Review Integrated Plan This number changes with KSDE approval

Who Is Eligible ? Does not meet the QPA performance target(s) for one year (on watch) Accredited on improvement Not accredited Submits an Integrated Improvement Plan Participates in a KSDE sponsored technical assistance peer review of their plan This formula does not apply to Title I improvement status.

Why Would A School Use This Formula? Another opportunity to show growth!!!

Expected Gain Impact on Title I Improvement Status Does not impact Title I Improvement Status for NCLB. It only applies to Kansas QPA accreditation - A school in corrective action for Title I could be “accredited on improvement” for QPA Schools are encouraged to use the formula, because of its impact on state accreditation
