Speaking and Listening Encourage your child: to prepare thoroughly and practise for Speaking and Listening tasks to consider how they speak in different situations and to use appropriate language in assessed situations to talk to you about challenging topics

Writing Encourage your child : to check their written work carefully to use a thesaurus, a dictionary or a spellchecker to practise spelling, punctuation and grammar through activities on the VLE

READING According to a recent survey, 70% teenagers would rather watch TV than read a book.

Do you value the importance of reading?

When did your child last see you reading?

Are there reading materials in your home?

Do you ever visit a bookshop or library with your child?

Have you ever talked to your child about a book?

Do you know what your child is reading at school?

When did you last buy your child a book?

Have you ever listened to an audio book?

Do you encourage your child to read the novel before seeing the film version?

When was the last time you heard your child reading aloud?

Reading Encourage your child: to read a range of fiction and non-fiction to use the school library and borrow books regularly discuss books why they like or dislike them
