Conducts undercover compliance checks (stings) of tobacco retailers using youth decoys (age ) to determine compliance with STAKE Act Compliance checks of retailers determined by: ♦Random selection of tobacco retailers ♦Prior sale of tobacco product to minor ♦Complaint ♦Referral from law enforcement or other agency Civil penalties between $200 - $6000 assessed to tobacco retailers that sale tobacco products to the youth decoy

Operates a toll-free number ( ASK-4-ID) for the public to report illegal tobacco sales to minors Compliance check results shared with Attorney General’s office Compliance sales rate is not to be confused with the official sales rate for the State of CA from the annual youth survey
