Setting up and getting going with…. MIT App Inventor

What you will need? A Google account App inventor website ( The latest version of Java installed on your computer -already installed on the school computers- App inventor installed on your computer -already installed on the school computers- ( Taken from:

Getting going… Step 1 Go to and select the “Invent” buttonhttp://appinventor.mit.edu/ Step 2 Login to your Google account if required Step 3 Select “New” from the menu Step 4 Give your project a meaningful name!

And if you have done it right….. …..But wait you’re not done yet!

Step 5 You need to check that the block editor is working Step 6 If asked, select open the app inventor file and click ok You might need to wait a few seconds for the block editor to load, don’t click on anything – just wait! If the block editor does not load then you will need to check it is installed

And if you have done it right….. Check that the file name is the same as your project name Here are the code blocks that you will need (very similar to scratch) …..One last thing!

Finally You will need both the block editor program and app inventor website open. It is a good idea to keep them both open during your lessons. You should save your work regularly, you can also click on “my projects” and download your source code from the app inventor site. If you lose your work or your password your teacher won’t be able to help. So make sure you save everything! You are now ready to start making your first app.
