Unit 2: Drawing
Unit Outline Part A: In this Unit, you will be introduced to one and two point perspective drawing. You will: -Draw simple box shapes in perspective from various angles -Draw more complicated shapes, which fit into ‘crates,’ such as furniture -Draw and apply your knowledge to objects in a 3D space (i.e. in a room or landscape) Part B: You will be introduced to Surrealism, which is an Art Movement. Paintings by René Magritte, a famous Surrealist artist, will be introduced and discussed (as well as others depending on time). You will: -Brainstorm possible Surrealist ideas for your artwork, composite and plan your picture -Draw your own Surrealist artwork using perspective -Add colour to your picture using tones Perspective Horizon Surrealism Realism Illusion Vanishing point Eye level Overlapping Crates 3D Key Vocabulary:
Drawing: Introduction to 1 Point Perspective (task 1) What does perspective mean? Task 1: 1.Create a horizon line, then create a point on the horizon line (vanishing point). 2.Practice by drawing simple box shapes with low and high angles. (use a ruler) 3.If you finish early practice adding in value.
Student work
Task 2: Try drawing a room in 1 Point perspective. First draw the back wall, then set a vanishing point slightly off centre to make it look more interesting. Try adding in a chair, shelf or a bookcase, bed, window or rug to begin with. Don't get to complicated. Keep in mind what you learned from the first task.
