Roberto Tenchini CMS FB December 2004 CMS Tracker The Tracker Cost Review - November 2004

Roberto Tenchini CMS FB December 2004 The Procedure All individual Budget lines have been reviewed Actual payments and best estimates have been used Present contingencies have been determined and the budget re-allocated to cover as much as possible budget lines where urgent orders had to be placed (i.e. Sensors, Procurements for Hybrids, Opthoelectronics) Spares allocated into M&O-B This is of course an executive summary

Roberto Tenchini CMS FB December 2004 Reminder We are facing losses for Sensors 1.75 MCHF (*) Hybrids 1 MCHF (**) The FED was historically lacking funds (1 MCHF) There are items that were initially foreseen to be covered by DAQ and now are on Tracker (930 kCHF). For these items only recently costs were made available. (*) If the STM contract is closed without additional payments (**) Includes components Detailed list of losses available

Roberto Tenchini CMS FB December 2004 New Additional Costs TEC specific procurements are more expensive than originally foreseen Capton, Frames and ICB’s extra-costs (239 kCHF) were covered by existing contingency (*) TEC Mechanics extra-cost (420 kCHF) could only partially be covered. We lack funds here. (**) New functionalities for the alignment to Muon Ch. were required (100 kCHF) (*) Description of extra-costs is available (**) Transports and additional manpower to speed up construction, better rotation cradles, extra-costs in structure

Roberto Tenchini CMS FB December 2004 New Additional Costs The AC-DC 48 Volts supplies to the PS units were not included in the original PS cost, as they were considered part of general electronics: 270 kCHF

Roberto Tenchini CMS FB December 2004 Important assumptions for issues still under discussions Sensors. We assume to receive from STM the 1400 sensors already produced but not delivered, yet, to CMS. We assume to close the contract with STM with no additional payments (we already paid 3 MCHF). Hybrids We assume to get back from Cicorel the lost substrates (100 kCHF) For these items the Contractual Risk has been assessed

Roberto Tenchini CMS FB December 2004 Risk Assessment Contractual Risk evaluation. Example : Sensors. If the 1400 remaining STM sensors are not delivered, have to buy them from HPK : 928 kCHF (*)Uncertainties due to currency exchange rates have been computed (3% EU (*), 5% Pound, 10% $, 10% Yen) Technological Contingencies have been added to costs (FED, TEC, Cables, PS) We take this maximum for sensors, intermediate scenarios have been evaluated (*) 1.55 was used for CHF/EU

Roberto Tenchini CMS FB December 2004

Roberto Tenchini CMS FB December 2004 Results for some relevant items (units=kCHF) DeficitContractual RiskCurrency Risk Sensors Hybrids0 Covered 104 Module Electronics -307 From Hybrid losses - 25 FED-1941 Includes off det electronics and contingency TEC Mechanics General Cooling Alignment TOTAL (including Other lines !)

Roberto Tenchini CMS FB December 2004 Conclusions The Total deficit for the Tracker is 3543 kCHF The Total deficit for the Tracker is 3543 kCHF There is Contractual Uncertainty dominated by the still undelivered STM sensors (1032 kCHF) There is Contractual Uncertainty dominated by the still undelivered STM sensors (1032 kCHF) Currency Risk is still affecting the Tracker because some procurements are not finalized, yet (FED, Cables, PS, Analog Link) (964 kCHF) Currency Risk is still affecting the Tracker because some procurements are not finalized, yet (FED, Cables, PS, Analog Link) (964 kCHF)
