NEAR BC Northern Node Dr. Sarah de Leeuw is an Associate professor for the Northern Medical Program at UNBC. Dr de Leeuw’s research is situated, broadly, at the intersection of cultural and historical geography. It draws heavily from ongoing discussions in (post)colonial theory and writings by Indigenous theorists, artists, and writers. Her research with the Northern Medical Program and the National Collaborating Centre for Aboriginal Health aims to expand understandings about colonialism (past and present), particularly as it was undertaken geographically, as a social determinant of Aboriginal peoples ’ health. Dr. Sarah de Leeuw

NEAR BC Northern Node Travis Holyk TRAVIS HOLYK is the Director of Research and Policy Development for Carrier Sekani Family Services, an organization responsible for health, social and legal services for First Nations people of the Carrier and Sekani territory. Travis is currently completing his Doctorate in Education at Simon Fraser University and has conducted a considerable amount of research into social issues including health, justice and social research for the Carrier and Northern Secwepemc nations.
