Arne Duncan Urges CTE to Prove its Worth Upgrade its programs to prove they are "worthy investments" CTE offering has to be as rigorous as college prep Prepare students for all the same possibilities as college prep does. Main goal getting some kind of postsecondary credential or industry-recognized certificate.

ACTE BRIEF Increasing high school graduation rates would not only help put more individuals on the path to success, but would also ensure that the American economy stays strong. ACTE Issue Brief: American Competitiveness

Education “Education is Learning what you didn’t even know you didn’t know” Ralph Waldo Emerson {Preparing Students for the 21 st Century, Donna and others, p. 27}

CER Press Release, Washington DC April 2, 2012 The US GPA of 2.1 -a ‘C’ – on state charter school laws is a result of states having earned five A grades, nine Bs, seventeen Cs, seven Ds and four Fs Center for Education Reform April 2, 2012

IDEAS? WHY OUR CURRENT SYSTEM FAILS SO MANY YOUTH, AND WHAT CAN BE DONE TO FIX IT? “College for all” might be the mantra, but the hard reality is that fewer than one in three young people achieve the dream.

NACTEI SYSTEM IMPACT Are the new Perkins accountability provisions working? Are states implementing the requirement for developing and implementing programs of study that integrate academic and technical content? Are CTE teachers of high quality getting the professional development they need for integrating challenging academic and technical content? Is student enrollment in CTE programs changing, and do those programs integrate academic and technical content? Do the outcomes for CTE students – high school graduation, achievement levels, postsecondary enrollment, and employment and earnings – reflect a positive impact from CTE participation?

Donald Rumsfeld, Secretary of Defense “There are known knowns. There are things that we know that we know. There are known unknowns. That is to say, there are things that we now know we don’t know. But there are also unknown unknowns. There are things we do not know we don’t know.” (Lloyd Lim, Basic Stuff That Everyone Should Know, 2012)
