Does Macbeth fit Aristotle’s definition of a tragic hero? Focus: Body Paragraphs

Topic Sentence The main idea of the paragraph relative to the thesis statement. A complex sentence that not only introduces an idea but explains why it is important.

Concrete Details Research information supportive of the topic sentence. **can be in the form of a quote. Quotes must be introduced and cited. – To introduce a quote, name the speaker and what is happening while the statement is being made. – To cite a quote from a Shakespearean play, provide the Act, scene, and line numbers. Example (II.iii ).

Insightful and Critical Analysis Sentences Insight enhances the detail by offering further investigation of the point made. Critical analysis goes further in-depth by examining your own insight to make relevant connections, transition to another idea, or comment on author’s purpose.

Linking Sentences Sentences that can be identified as simple sentences that connect one point to the next. Such sentences may be necessary when exploring multiple points.

Transition Sentence A challenging but important sentence that is vital to the flow or continuity of your essay. This sentence connects the ideas of one body paragraph to the next.
