Invasion of France 1940

Maginot Line

Germany used Blitzkrieg tactics against France. Germany defeated France in 5 weeks. They had done what could not be done in 4 years of WWI.

Air Warfare Air warfare was a very important aspect of WWII. Air superiority was when one sides air force dominated the skies. The side with air superiority could then use its planes to attack the ground forces of the enemy.

Battle of Britain – After the defeat of France, Hitler tried to take Britain. Before Hitler could invade England, his air force had to achieve air superiority. The Germans failed to gain air superiority and the invasion was called off. One reason the British won the Battle of Britain was the new technology of radar. Radar allowed the British to locate and intercept German planes before they could bomb their targets. Battle of Britain
